Het zal toeval zijn: het verschijnen van de docuserie Cruijff valt naadloos samen met het recente instappen van Jordi Cruijff als technisch directeur bij Ajax. Dat de afleveringen ook nog eens uitkomen in het tiende sterfjaar van Nederlands grootste voetballegende, is dan weer duidelijk zo gepland. Met het hectische, zinnenprikkelende resultaat kiezen de makers niet voor de weg van de minste weerstand. Voor een productie die wordt verspreid via de publieke omroep is de serie opvallend uitgesproken gestileerd.
Het is alsof de makers van Noa Lang: Lastpak voorkennis hadden: precies in de periode dat de spraakmakende vleugelspeler door blessureleed niet op het veld te bewonderen valt, verschijnt op Prime Video een documentaire over zijn voetbal- en privéleven. Het is makkelijk om cynisch te reageren op de zoveelste realitysoap over een topsporter, maar de ironie wil dat een ‘lastpak’ als Lang zulke reacties juist als krachtvoer gebruikt. Reden genoeg om deze miniserie op zijn minst het voor(oor)deel van de twijfel te geven.
