Selma Blair speelde haar bekendste filmrollen in Cruel Intentions, Legally Blonde en Hellboy voordat ze op 46-jarige leeftijd werd gediagnosticeerd met de chronische ziekte MS (multiple sclerose). Introducing, Selma Blair volgt de actrice voor het grootste deel in 2019, als ze een zware stamceltransplantatie ondergaat. De documentaire is aangrijpend en maakt de mogelijke impact van de slopende ziekte inzichtelijk, maar wordt wel wat geplaagd door misplaatste muziekkeuzes.
Filmvrienden Gudo Tienhooven en John de Jong vierden in 2018 het tien(!)jarige jubileum van hun filmpodcast Movie Insiders. In een speciale uitzending onthulden zij welke films hun all-time top-50 aanvoerden en keken ze terug op de talloze uitzendingen die aan dat moment voorafgingen. Ik ben eigenlijk een rookie – ik ken de heren nu 1,5 jaar [schat ik], wat zou betekenen dat ik nog een jaartje of 8,5 aan materiaal heb terug te luisteren;) De podcast is een aanrader voor eenieder die film een warm hart toedraagt.
Degenen die mij een beetje kennen, weten waarschijnlijk wel dat ik een grote (voor)liefde heb voor filmmuziek. Dit is niet de tijd en de plek daar (weer) in algemene zin op in te gaan, maar ik ga wel iets anders doen: voor de eerste keer presenteer ik mijn favoriete scores en soundtracks van het afgelopen filmjaar. In aanmerking komt alle instrumentale filmmuziek bij films die maakjaar 2017 hebben, óf dit jaar voor het eerst in de Nederlandse bioscopen is verschenen.
