Het verhaal van Next Goal Wins is een pareltje in de categorie ‘bizar, maar waar’. Wie de gelijknamige, in 2015 uitgebrachte documentaire al eens zag, herkent hoe een verstokte Nederlandse coach naar Amerikaans-Samoa wordt gestuurd om het ‘slechtste voetbalteam ter wereld’ aan de praat te krijgen. Jammer dat beroepskomiek Taika Waititi die kolderieke toestand een stuk sterker opklopt dan nodig. Zijn fictiebewerking kijkt minstens zo makkelijk weg, maar voelt ook volstrekt overbodig.

Eternal Spring is een knap geanimeerde, maar inhoudelijk nogal schematische poging van een gerenommeerde illustrator én Falun Gong-adept om de televisiekaping opnieuw in herinnering te brengen.
