Voor doorgewinterde fans behoeven ze al lang geen introductie meer: de intergalactische sterren van het Marvel-universum, die in een alsmaar uitdijende filmreeks de wereld telkens opnieuw van haar ondergang dienen te redden. Thor: Ragnarok is op die regel geen uitzondering. ‘Ragnarok’ verwijst in de Noor(d)se mythologie letterlijk naar het einde der tijden. Michael Mann’s Manhunter (1986) was een logische must-see nadat ik in een vroeger stadium reeds de Hannibal-klassieker (The Silence of the Lambs) en het tweelingbroertje van Manhunter (Red Dragon) zag. Deze film baseert zich op hetzelfde verhaal als Red Dragon, en volgt grotendeels dezelfde verhaallijn. Er zijn echter ook wel een aantal verschillen: zo representeert Red Dragon bijvoorbeeld gebeurtenissen die in Manhunter alleen in retrospectief verteld worden (Lektor die Graham aanvalt en verwondt of helemaal niet verteld worden (het alternatieve einde van Red Dragon). Daarnaast geniet Manhunter de zegening van een fijne 80s-sfeer en, niet onbelangrijk, is Anthony Hopkins eens een keer niet de alom gevreesde kannibalistische hoofdrolspeler.
