Online filmmagazine Indebioscoop besteedde in Juli aandacht aan de door EYE Film opgezette themamaand rond de acteurs Sidney Poitier en Denzel Washington. In de First Reformed-kerk te Snowbridge, New York luistert een handvol bezoekers naar een preek van Ernst Toller (Ethan Hawke). De lege banken vertellen een verhaal: wat eens een plaats van samenkomst was, ademt nu verval en verlatenheid. Buiten de tijden van de mis leidt Toller wat toeristen rond. Het orgel doet het niet meer, maar er zijn nog voldoende souvenirs. Vooral de First Reformed-petjes worden warm aanbevolen. Ze passen altijd.
