Het was een geweldig filmjaar. Ik zag meer titels dan ooit: in de bioscoop/pers, op filmfestivals, thuis… Na mijn verhuizing richting Antwerpen bleek daarnaast dat ik op twee straten woonde van een prachtige arthousebioscoop , die binnen het studieprogramma van mijn opleiding een prominente plaats zou innemen. Zo kon het gebeuren dat ik mijn studie Film en Visuele Cultuur ging combineren met ontspannen uitstapjes naar Cinema Zuid, waar ik o.a. al City Lights, On the Waterfront, La Notte en Jules et Jim zag.
Net als in April en Juli kom ik met een lijstje dat mijn favorieten van dit filmjaar effectief bijeenbrengt. Wederom twee updates dus: eerst deel ik het beste van het derde kwartaal (juli-september), daarna stel ik de tussenstand op voor film van het jaar.
Het is juli… eindelijk vakantie dus! Tegelijk is het ook tijd om weer de balans op te maken; begin april deelde ik mijn film top-10 over het eerste kwartaal (zie: https://timbouwhuis.nl/film-top-10-eerste-kwartaal-2017/), ditmaal plaats ik twee lijstjes. Ik update de tussenstand van mijn jaar-toplijst, maar vermeld ook wat mijn favorieten waren over de afgelopen drie maanden.
Tijdens de eerste drie maanden van 2017 zag ik al een flinke hoeveelheid films. Het is tijd om een eerste balans op te maken. Welke recente releases zijn absolute must-sees?

Het verlies van haar man verwerken, maar tegelijkertijd in korte tijd een imago creëren. In de eerste dagen na de aanslag op John F. Kennedy (22-11-1963) deed Jackie Kennedy beiden. Regisseur Pablo Larraín (Neruda) en scenarist Noah Oppenheim (The Act of Killing) bundelden hun krachten om een film te maken die meer biedt dan alleen een biografisch portret. Op het eerste oog is Jackie met name een indringend drama, maar daarachter schuilt een intelligente reflectie op politieke beeldvorming en de kunstmatige aard van herinnering.
