Leven in een dictatuur, altijd functioneren met tralies in je ooghoeken. Zelfs als Nam Chul-Woo (Seung-bum Ryoo) de liefde bedrijft met zijn vrouw houdt een Noord-Koreaans staatsportret toezicht. Toch treft het echte ongeluk de protagonist van The Net pas als hij zijn onvrije land verlaat. Nam leefde in de enige realiteit die hij ooit kende, maar daarbinnen werden zijn werk en familie hem in ieder geval nooit ontnomen. Dat verandert als zijn vissersbootje verstrikt raakt en Nam een kritieke landgrens overschrijdt.
