Vitalina Varela (2019), de meest recente film van de Portugese regisseur Pedro Costa (1948), zou afgelopen voorjaar op twee verschillende Belgische festivals te zien zijn, waarna een bescheiden release zou volgen. Corona gooide roet in het eten, maar enkele maanden later is er alsnog hoop op degelijke vertoningsmogelijkheden. Reden voor Filmmagie om Vitalina Varela op de cover van de September-editie te zetten en Costa’s oeuvre verder uit te lichten.
Op Donderdag 13 Februari wordt de zwart-witversie van de Zuid-Koreaanse succesfilm Parasite (Bong Joon-Ho, 2019) regulier uitgebracht in de Nederlandse zalen. Onlangs ging de make-over in première op het IFFR, waar Bong Joon-Ho ook te gast was. Parasite Black & White won er pardoes de publieksprijs. Reden voor de redactie van indebioscoop.com om een kritisch licht op de situatie te laten schijnen.

Voor filmmagie mocht ik na afloop van het 49e IFFR de hoogtepunten bespreken en enkele kritische noten kraken. Het lijdt geen twijfel dat ik overall weer genoten heb, en uitkijk naar de jubileumeditie van 2020.
