De culturele en politieke uitwassen van de verdeelde Verenigde Staten zijn de voorbije jaren een bovengemiddeld dankbaar onderwerp voor filmmakers. Mainstream releases als Civil War en One Battle After Another zetten een duidelijke toon en ook op LIFF 2025 laat het tijdperk-Trump sporen na. Het is logisch te denken dat we voor een diepere duik aangewezen zijn op de vooraanstaande American Indie Competitie, al jaren een blikvanger op het festival. Toch halen we onze inspiratie voor dit vierde verslag juist uit de selectie Bonkers!.

In Doubles Vies vangt een Parijse uitgeverij de klappen op van de doorgeschoten digitalisatie. Bestaat informatie nog wel? Waar ligt de balans tussen verzet en vooruitgang? Tijdens het schrijfproces ontdekte Olivier Assayas dat zijn vraagstukken hun gewenste effecten alleen zouden hebben in de speelse mal van de komedie.
