In Nederland vinden er op jaarbasis tientallen filmfestivals plaats en heeft bijna elke (middel)grote stad een eigen filmtheater. Het is lastig om je een situatie voor te stellen waarin vertoningsopties als sneeuw voor de zon verdwijnen – al konden we er in coronatijd aan ruiken. Twee films op deze editie van CinemAsia memoreren elk vanuit een eigen invalshoek het belang van creatieve inspiratie en een bruisende filmcultuur.

De kenners die het festivalaanbod van CinemAsia programmeren, bestrijken geografisch én filmisch zo’n immens terrein dat het extra prikkelt om zelf naar gedeelde thema’s en andere overeenkomsten te zoeken. Deze editie gaan ten minste vier geselecteerde titels over het vloeibare spectrum van verlies, verval, rouwverwerking en herinnering. Wat hebben films uit India, China, Taiwan en zelfs Costa Rica te zeggen over de dingen van het leven die onherroepelijk voorbij gaan?

Van 7 t/m 12 maart zijn drie Amsterdamse bioscopen het decor van CinemAsia Film Festival, waar jaarlijks een uitgemeten selectie van films uit Aziatische landen te zien is. Mijn uitgebreide vooruitblik voor InDeBioscoop lees je hier.
